Its sad to see that so many people blind to this choose to live on being brainwashed by the passive reporting of mainstream media. TOKYO : I planned the screen setup and organized visual artists for an event at Seco Lounge in Shibuya to mark the release of the new compilation DVD “Ryuke – Tokyo Remix Sessions”. Several top lightrhythm acts were billed including VJMMM, Shantell Martin and Kevlar, gavve a solid platform for a dynamic audiovisual performances by VJ REEL and Broken Haze.

Key audio performances by the french act - "the shoes" and japanese allstar band "the samos" provided a dancable atmosphere which continued all night.

Lightrhythm Visuals and Insector Labo, announces they are releasing the ausiovisual compilation DVD “Ryuke – Tokyo Remix Sessions” early this year. Produced by two of Japans top CG and Motion Graphic designers the visual richness and dense textural works reconfirm Tokyo as a leader in visual content will be available globally on DVD from May the 1^st 2008.

The two Japanese creators VJ REEL and K-Mixx formed a partnership in 2004 where they first concepted the album. Performing together extensively in Tokyos vibrant electronic music scene and working closely with audio artists from the Insector Labo they matured a collection of modern works which fluctuate between ...

3d concepts of virtual reality, Film influenced by the surroundings or the Asain metropolis and expressive and playful graphic studies of data, The audiovisual works were discovered by VJ group Lightrhythm Visuals who expanded the project into a six way collaboration project commissioning further remixes and authoring the record. The disc reveals an array of creative video techniques from the dynamic beat driven pulsating “in-sect” to the industrial structural qualities of “beautiful destruction”.

A key element of “Ryuke” is its collaborative concept: with each track being visually remixed by top visual producers from around the world. Featuring adapttions by from scenes top influencers VJ Anyone, and Funkshun.01, alongside the graphic inventions of Kevlar, and finished off by two memorable interpretations by the labels founder Ben Sheppee its truly a cultural melting pot with artists from four continents taking their place on the disc and involving in the original Japanese works.

The audio selection for the album falls strongly into the arms of Tokyos underground with recognized “Broken Haze” and laptop producer “Chaos” collectively contributing a cohesive selection of timeless sounds. Both artists have released multiple albums and have matured both instinctive and individual styles of music which equally balance the quality of the visual works.

Always innovative and utterly inspiring, the captivating first in Lightrhythm’s new series "Notations 01" showcases handpicked artists from Europe, Japan and the Americas. Continuing to deliver imaginative content and hosting award winning artists "Notations 01” descends into stores from October the 25th.

The name, inspired by the book “Notations” (compiled by John Cage) aimed to also explore the new techniques in visualization of sound in the same way that Cage inspired new forms of written music. For this reason Lightrhythm consciously sought out matured approaches to a diversity of music. The result encompasses a full spectrum of sound and light; classical compositions, electronic interpretations; each track unearthing a fresh, motivating re-approach towards visual arts and vjing. The works fill an expanse of imagination and intellect, a playful choreographed of light, shape and sound. Varying approaches yield a range of moods from the day dreamscapes of “Lake” to the awakening rhythms of “Ellis Jones” and “Gravith”.

A key element of Notations 01 is its collaborative concept: each contributing artist shared their source files with top visual performers and designers around the world. Each VJ then remixed the elements of one track, arranging and interpreting the composition in their own style. The results stand as a truly global collection of work, collaborations between cultures and mediums, resulting in a unique DVD. Visual remixes utilize the DVDs multi-angle feature, allowing two animations to run simultaneously to the same audio track, which inturn lets the viewer interact with the content switching between original works and remixed works in real time.

Including some of the world’s top audiovisual talents such as Suryummy (VJ Battle winner for two years straight), Vj Anyone (last year voted no#3 VJ in the world by DJ Magazine) and renowned gallery artist Scott Draves, along with gripping performances from the labels returning ensemble cast, Ben Sheppee, Brian Clark and Kevlar. New to the label, taking over the reigns include visual effects artist Supernature (Da-Vinci Code, Sky Captain) and top Spanish designers Actop, and young Japanese creative VJ Reel,

SPAIN : I'm participating in the “Repeat Please: VJ Culture” exhibition in Cordoba, Spain; an exhibition curated by the ZEMOS98 collective for Eutopia 07. The project is an informative exhibition about the culture of video jockeys, or VJs – creators of the audiovisuals of the present and the future.

This exhibition has a strong focus on information, and includes a demo area allowing hands-on access to VJ software and hardware, videos and interactive audiovisual installations. An exhibition catalogue will be published with specialised texts on the different areas of the exhibition and images of the works included in it. This catalogue will be the first of its kind published in Spain, and to contribute to the social expansion of the concepts it covers, it will also be available in PDF format.

Im working together with GAVJ to produce a series of events under the title "Visualux". Im organizing screenings, performances, and multi-media art at the event attempts which Im hoping can build bridges between my current homeland Japan and the rest of the world.

Visualux is a social audiovisual immersive experience, with interactive and cinematic moments and showcases refined experimentation, environmental installations + a range of AV techniques over the course the year (with special presentations by visiting artists and local contemporaries.)

LONDON - Optronica returns! Once again, bringing visual music to the big screen, the hybrid film and music festival takes place in London from 14th - 18th MARCH 2007 and promises to be a must-see spectacular 5 day celebration of the fusion of music and visuals.

activity that facilitates a radically new kind of post-cinematic experience.
This experience can only be articulated in relation to traditional film syntax.
In doing some, the similarities and differences between this new type of cinema
and the older one flesh out new possibilities for producers of the moving
image, the audience, and the spaces in which cinema can not only be seen, but happen as events.

By breaking apart these elements, and exploring them in depth, a new kind of
language can emerge, one that shapes and is equally shaped by the current
discourse around the moving image. For instance, the relationship between the
image and screen is often neglected by traditional filmmakers, but VJs consider
it with a heightened awarness when preparing for a gig. VJing is one of the
first new art movements to be uniquely democratic in its production, as well as
distribution models, and its influences and effects (ranging from motion
graphics, design, Internet, etc.) are hashed out. Further, it is a global
movement, and encompasses a wide variety of scenes. VJing in the era of
globalization becomes a hotly contested them. And the cutting edge / periphery
of VJ culture, festivals and events that showcase new ways of producing and
receiving cinema (such as database performance) are highlighted.

That’s one of the reasons scene leading man Mike Faulkner from the London-based visual wizards D-FUSE edited the volume VJ: Audio-Visual Art + VJ Culture. Published by Laurence King Publishing this book introduces 128 VJs from all around the world, sticks its nose into software & hardware, and doesn’t forget about the history either.

I got involved with this book in several ways, individually as an artist, writing the Japan section introduction, (sample below) presenting work for the DVD, in the equipment guide as an example set-up, and performing on the opening event at Roxy Cinema as part of the cybertongue tour.

ONLINE : The vj culture is tangible in a lot of contemporary video works. The germs of the non-linear narrative (that were enabled and spread by PC post production software tools) has largely infected the video medium. As in the first Reline volume the integration of forms is here more sophisticated than the pure classical abstraction exercise. The flow of elements is usually linked through different degrees of transparencies, and transition effects are applied on parts of the (moving) pictures, continuously transforming the basic perception. This kind of germination of forms can then be experienced in the psychedelic architectures of Scott Pagano, in the sliding wings of Ben Sheppee & Sewn, or in the morphing organic signs of Robert Seidel. The digital culture seem to have radically transformed the visual space of video: from a sequential unicuum to a compositional and sometimes asymmetrical matrix, retrieving the structural elements of the printed graphic design and constantly moving them in a visual flux.

JAPAN / EUROPE - Touring for the second time this year VJ Kevlar and myself took to the stage through October and November in conjunction with Coppe’ and Liberation Jumpsuit, as part of the “Cybertongue Tour” at venues in Tokyo and around Europe. Promoting new DVD releases and performing to excitable crowds in the cosmopolitan capitals we appeared at 10 shows and spoke on radio channels which spanned the UK and Spain.

RELINE2 artists investigate modern mythology, examine environments, play with similes between machine and body, and explode form. Through the use of custom software, unique processing methods, and envelope- pushing applications of traditional production tools, these works push technical limits and the very boundaries of style and imagination. RELINE2 offers an insight into the current world and it's potential future as imagined through graphic re-interpretations, biotechnology, architecture, and the environment.

On this DVD I released the collaborative work - reGENerAT10n - a 2min piece involving forest elements composited with 3d structural graphics.
RELINE2 also features the music of: AGF, Anon, Brian Jackson, The Knobs, Lusine ICL, Jake Mandell, Otto Von Schirach, QDepartment, seed(), Sewn, Solvent, Twerk, and Venetian Snares

Event - Project Censored

For the third year running I provided full visual support for the Project Censored team in their current book release. Project Censored is a media research group out of Sonoma, which tracks the news published in independent journals and newsletters and NOT covered by mainstream med. From these, Project Censored compiles an annual list of 25 news stories of social significance that have been overlooked, under-reported or self-censored by the country's major national media giants (often intentionally).

I produced the graphic treatment for the presentation and the program covered by Freespeech TV Live and hosting guest speakers such as Amy Goodman and Noam Chomsky.
